There has always been this debate out there about who is actually the best dancehall artiste in Ghana.
The names that are usually shortlisted are Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, and Samini. While many have divergent views about who they feel and think qualifies as the best, the debate is not settled yet.
Many who take part in this debate are bias towards their favorite artists and do not remain objective in their observations.
On the back of the foregoing, Ghanaian female songwriter and occasional rapper, Becca, put up a poll on Twitter for his audience to vote on the three (Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, and Samini) to determine the best among them.
The poll which garnered over 18k votes produced a rather interesting results.
For many, Samini is the pioneer of the dancehall music genre in Ghana and the first Ghanaian act to win a MOBO award and also have some time-lasting songs which go to his advantage. But that didn’t reflect in the votes.
For Shatta Wale who is arguably the most popular artiste in Ghana, many are of the view that his loudness and somewhat appealing nature to people on the street will give him an upper hand but it wasn’t.
Unanimously, many believe Stonebwoy, at this moment, is the best dancehall artiste in Ghana based on several factors including the virality of his brand and how popular he is across the globe. His international appeal and awards coupled with the rich content of his songs make him the first.
The poll ended with the following results:
Stonebwoy – 61.6%
Shatta Wale – 26.2%
Samini – 12.1%
