Nigerian author, Reno Omokri has said that drinking alcohol is no sin and that it is unscriptural to preach against the drinking of alcohol.
He noted that ‘too much of everything is bad’ so it is only when ‘alcohol is drunk too much’ that it becomes a sin.
Buttressing his opinion, Reno Omokri remarked that even Apostle Paul encourage the drinking of wine in 1 Tim 5:23 that says:
“KJV: “Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities.”
Reno then went ahead to say that even wine is drunk in Heaven as recorded in Matthew 26:29.
As if that isn’t enough, he gave another quotation Deu 14:26 that allows Christians to use their tithe to buy wine and enjoy:
“Use the silver to buy whatever you like: cattle, sheep, wine or other fermented drink, or anything you wish. Then you and your household shall eat there in the presence of the LORD your God and rejoice.”
His points were countered some other school of thought who think wine in the bible was referring to non-alcoholic wine and Reno Omokri replied them in a new tweet saying that wine, as used in the bible, is alcoholic.
“With regard to my last tweet, religionists argue that if Scripture says wine, it refers to non alcoholic wine. Scriptural wine is ALCOHOLIC (John 2:10). Deut 14:26 even refers to it as STRONG DRINK. Anything done in excess, including wine, is a sin”
